Hit in the face by a truck
Everyone's favorite,Herb, recovering from eye surgery two days before, said he felt "like I've been hit in the face by a truck." Never the less, faithful fan that he is, he was here and he brought packs of Herb Gum for all conventioneers. When Scotty (Billy In Training) went in to visit, Herb asked if he'd play a tune on his mandolin.
Still Partying
No bluegrass tonight
Dave may have been lamenting that Scotty's performance was the closest he got to hearing his favorite bluegrass band, The Grateful Dudes, tonight. Seems the Dudes' fiddle player, Dennis Fetchet, was here instead of at his regular Saturday night gig at Vincenzo's in Newhall.
As Scotty always has his mandolin with him (there's plenty of practice time on the drive from Apple Valley) he was happy to oblige Herb, and then the many others who asked to hear Mandolin Billy's hard-working and gifted student.

A tender moment

Now we know where Lyn gets her beauty
We finally got to meet Peg & Elton, Lyn's parents, who helped make the convention a success.
Dave V., HIllbilly Evan, and Soundman Gary
What's Dave was hiding from? Hope it wasn't the camera.

Over 60 (mostly) happy people, including six Hillbillies and Soundman, Gary, attended. Forgive us for not managing to picture everyone.
The Birthday
Lyn set aside a birthday area

The convention fell on Debbie's birthday, and she reminded us frequently about that fact in the Debbie Dear column of Area 51. A birthday area was set aside for this "national holiday" for a party within a party.
Five, count 'em, a FIVE-Hillbilly birthday song
In honor of Debbie's birthday, Fiddle Billy had broken his speed fiddlin' record that day at the Horseshoe. Tonight she got a birthday seranade by not four, but FIVE Hillbillies.

Because of the size and family nature of the convention, the bar was open only to Hillbillies and BYOB'ers. As the hour grew late, a few last revelers gathered round the bar.

Late Night Clark, star of stage and the Second Annual Billy Convention, bemoaned the fact that the snap didn't work for him.
Clark, bedecked in Hillbilly hat, cumberbund & three women
Lyn tried to fix that by encouraging the ladies to gather, but the magic just wasn't the same. (Photo by Lyn.)

Clark compiled and distributed books of original Hillbilly-related songs written by the fans. Everyone is going to memorize the songs for next time (right?) so the fans can seranade the Hillbillies.
Dave Eastley, star of stage, CD and screen (currently seen playing bass in the ballroom scene of The Princess Diaries ) Has only to snap his fingers and the women come running.
Just snap, they'll come running

OK?
Jan isn't sure WHAT's going on as Clark tries to add a straw-hat Hillbilly touch from behind Dennis.
As the witching hour came and went (see clock), these two ended up BEHIND the bar, acting as bartenders.Late night bartenders
What a thrill to have my last Diet Coke of the evening actually served by Mr. Dennis Fetchet.
The last hearty revelers left about 1:30, and so ended another fabulous gathering of the Hillbilly family, aka, Da Billy Club.
